BRANDON'S STORY

In May 2006, Brandon intervened to prevent a violent assault against a young family. A man who was stoned on drugs attacked the family in their home while Brandon was there visiting.  The drugged man then left but returned and tried to get back inside the house screaming "I’m going to kill you".  Brandon tried to stop him physically but could not.  When there was nothing else he could do, Brandon grabbed a hunting rifle and shot the man once.

Even though Brandon was only doing what he felt he had to do to save lives, he was charged with attempted murder and assault and he's been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The man who attacked this family is still in the community and was never charged.  Brandon is only 20 years old and is facing the prospect of losing his entire youth, all because he stepped up to protect the vulnerable.

We believe that justice was not served in this case. Brandon may have saved four lives and yet he is paying the price for another person’s violence.  We believe that Florida’s "stand your ground" law protects Brandon’s actions and yet he wasn’t acquitted.  We think Brandon has a strong case for an appeal.  We want to get Brandon back home where he belongs. Friends of the family are setting up a legal defense fund to allow Brandon to hire an attorney to bring his appeal and we need your help.

There are three ways we are asking for you to help:

1. The first is through Donations; we obviously need to fund this appeal.  Rod, Brandon's father, has already spent everything he has on Brandon’s legal fees to date.  An appeal won’t be possible without our help.  We are asking people to give whatever they can afford.

2. The second is to write letters of support to Brandon so that he keeps the faith and doesn't lose hope while awaiting an appeal.

3. The third is to sign up here on the web site as a supporter and sign the petition.

So please take the time to make a donation to bring Brandon home, and give him back the future that was taken from him.
